Not to hurt our humble brethren is our first duty to them, but to stop there is not enough. We have a higher mission -- to be of service to them wherever they require it.

Precious Acres Animal Rescue & Sanctuary is an Iowa 501(c)(3) nonprofit established in 2025 to create a safe rural refuge for animals needing rehabilitation, specialized care, and lifelong sanctuary. 

In June of 2025, Precious Acres Animal Rescue & Sanctuary, an Iowa 501(c)(3) was founded on the belief that animals needing more time, structure, specialized support, or lifelong care deserve a place designed around their needs. Later the same month, Jason & Kay Fix acquired an 8.46-acre rural property, and donated use of the land and outbuildings to Precious Acres. The Board of Directors was established the following July. 

The first fundraising goal was $30,000 for perimeter fencing. $13,000 was raised through generous donations and a rummage sale. The remaining $17,000 was granted by the Scott County Regional Authority. There have been three volunteer Clear the Way Day events to help removed trees, brush, and overgrowth. In addition, several local tree and stump removal businesses have donated time to tree removal, with just a handful of trees remaining before the fencing can be installed. 

The next page of our story is to continue fundraising and preparation for the other infrastructure projects that need completing before we are prepared to open, which includes construction of an animal care facility outbuilding and rehabilitation of the 100-year old barn. The estimated cost for these initiatives is $300,000.

 At Precious Acres Animal Rescue and Sanctuary, our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome animals in need, providing them with compassionate care and a second chance at life.
