Building Precious Acres

Our work begins before the first animal arrives. We are developing a safe, sustainable rural campus in deliberate phases—prioritizing essential animal-care facilities, infrastructure, enrichment spaces, and long-term operating stability.

Help Fund Construction

Our Development Roadmap

2026 - Perimeter Fencing

2027 - Animal-Care Facility

2027 - Animal-Care Facility

Clear the fence line, remove trees and stumps, and install secure black chain-link fencing.

The first fundraising target was $30,000 for a 5ft black chainlink perimeter fence encompassing the front half of the property. A combination of fundraising events, generous donations, and a grant from the Scott County Regional Authority help secure the funding. There have been three Clear the Way Days events where volunteers helped clear brush and overgrowth to make way from the fence. We are currently in the process of finishing the necessary tree and stump removal, with hopes of installing the fence in October 2026.

Architectural rendering of the planned Precious Acres animal care facility.

Construction of a new 40 × 60-foot outbuilding with secure, climate-controlled spaces for intake, daily care, enrichment, recovery, and essential support functions is targeted for Spring of 2027. We are currently working with builders on plans and costs. We've begun fundraising for the estimated $300,000 price tag.

2027 - Barn Rehabilitation

2027 - Barn Rehabilitation

Historic red barn at Precious Acres awaiting rehabilitation and future sanctuary use.

A future phase will preserve and improve the existing barn for safe, flexible use that supports the sanctuary’s long-term operations. The projected cost is $50,000 and will include a new exterior and reinforced loft flooring. Currently the barn is only good for equipment storage, and the loft is of no use. With these updates the loft becomes useable and the barn is an ideal storage facility which frees up the house for renovation.

2028 - House Renovation

2027 - Barn Rehabilitation

2027 - Barn Rehabilitation

Precious Acres farmhouse planned for renovation into medical, office, and support spaces.

The house will be renovated to support operations. The basement will be remodeled for medical support, animal isolation, and intake. while the main floor will become an office, gift shop, and bunkhouse for staff, volunteers, and approved guests.
